Neighbors

Last week I went for a jog and when I was returning to the house my next-door neighbor, Steve, waved to me from his driveway. I stopped to chat with him and we visited for a while. He told me what his family had been up to and I let him know about my life. It was really pleasant. Today, on my way back home after a run, my next-door-neighbor on the other side, Gina, was out hanging up her Christmas decorations. I offered her a hand and we caught up on life, she standing on the porch and I on the front lawn. It was interesting to be in a neighborhood with sidewalks, front porches, and neighbors who not only know one another but also check in and take time for a conversation. It felt a bit like home. Soon, it will be home again.
